Vision Redbridge Culture and Leisure (Vision RCL) is a registered charity and non-profit organisation dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for residents in the London Borough of Redbridge. As a social enterprise, any surplus generated is reinvested into the community to improve facilities and services. (visionrcl.org.uk)
Established in 2007, Vision RCL manages a diverse range of leisure and cultural services, including libraries, sports facilities, parks, arts, museums, and youth centres. The organisation operates under the leadership of Chief Executive Iain Varah, who has been instrumental in its development. The senior management team also includes Gareth Morley, Director of Arts, Culture & Libraries, and Kevin Wackett, Director of Parks & Open Spaces. (visionrcl.org.uk)
One of the flagship venues managed by Vision RCL is Valentines Park, a 52-hectare public park located south of Gants Hill. Originally the grounds of Valentines Mansion, built in 1696, the park is the largest green space in Redbridge and holds a Green Flag Award. In 2019, it was voted one of the ten best parks in Britain. In the realm of arts and culture, Vision RCL has been proactive in securing funding to enhance its offerings. In May 2019, the organisation received a £99,990 grant from The National Lottery Heritage Fund to revamp the Redbridge Museum, located within the Redbridge Central Library. This funding aims to transform the museum's permanent exhibition, celebrating 200,000 years of local history, from the Ice Age to the present day. (redbridge.gov.uk)
Vision RCL also hosts a variety of cultural events throughout the year. The Redbridge Outdoor Arts programme, for instance, brings high-quality, innovative UK and international outdoor arts to public spaces, aiming to attract, engage, and inspire local residents. These events are typically held once a month during the summer, featuring performances that are free and open to all. (withoutwalls.uk.com)
The organisation's commitment to inclusivity is evident in its diverse range of programmes. For example, the Ukrainian Music Studio offers singing and music lessons, including instruction on the bandura, every Thursday at the Redbridge Central Library. Additionally, the Ukrainian Craft Studio provides classes for both children and adults to learn various crafting techniques, fostering a creative community environment. (visionrcl.org.uk)
Vision RCL's dedication to community engagement and cultural enrichment has been recognised through various awards and nominations. In 2024, the organisation was shortlisted for the Ilford Business Awards in multiple categories, including Ilford Business of the Year and Redbridge Art & Culture Award. (visionrcl.org.uk)
Through its comprehensive range of services and programmes, Vision RCL continues to play a vital role in enhancing the cultural and leisure landscape of Redbridge, ensuring that residents and visitors have access to high-quality facilities and events that enrich their lives.
