Newbury Park Masjid
117 Oaks Ln, Newbury Park, Ilford IG2 7PY
Situated in the tranquil and verdant surroundings of Newbury Park, East London, this mosque has been a cornerstone of the local Muslim community since its establishment in 2008. The journey began when a group of local Muslims identified the need for a place of worship within walking distance, as there were no other mosques nearby. Overcoming challenges such as limited financial resources and space constraints, they acquired a plot of land from a former Salvation Army site. Initially, congregational prayers were held in a portacabin, accommodating a small number of worshippers. As the community grew, a temporary wooden structure was erected to house approximately 100 worshippers. Through years of dedicated fundraising and by the grace of Allah, the mosque now stands as a purpose-built, two-story building with a subterranean level, capable of accommodating 300-400 worshippers. The mosque operates as a non-profit, registered charity, governed by a nine-member Executive Committee. It is committed to serving the community through a variety of religious, educational, and social services. The management team consults with scholars, imams, and a Sharia Board under the umbrella of Ahlus Sunnah wal Jama'ah to ensure that all key religious matters are addressed appropriately. Regular programs include Tafsirul Quran sessions on Saturday evenings after Maghrib Salah, daily Hadith classes after Asr Salah, and a Women's Circle every Tuesday from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm. Educational offerings for children encompass weekday and weekend madrassah classes, catering to different age groups, as well as a Women's Quran class on Wednesdays from 11 am to 1 pm. Youth activities are also regularly organized, with facilities available for sisters. For the most current information on timings and further details, the community is encouraged to contact the imams directly. (newburyparkmasjid.org.uk)
The mosque's leadership comprises Imam Mohiuddin Mikdad and Imam Abdullah Al-Mowdud, who oversee the spiritual and administrative affairs. Jumu'ah prayers are conducted in two congregations: the first Khutbah at 12:30 pm, with Jama'ah at 12:50 pm, and the second Khutbah at 1:10 pm, with Jama'ah at 1:30 pm. Ladies' facilities are available to ensure comfort and accessibility for all worshippers. (newburyparkmasjid.org.uk)
The mosque is equipped with essential amenities, including wash facilities, restrooms, and parking. It is wheelchair accessible, with a prayer hall that accommodates individuals with mobility challenges. Separate prayer spaces and facilities are provided for women, ensuring a welcoming environment for the entire community. (prayersconnect.com)
