Carlton Square and Gardens

Carlton Square and Gardens, located in Bethnal Green, London, is a historic public garden that has undergone significant transformations since its inception. Originally known as Globe Fields, the area was owned by the Pemberton-Barnes family, established around 1850. The family developed a settlement on the site for their eight children and managed the properties through the Pemberton Barnes Estate Company, with most shares held by Ann Pemberton-Barnes. During World War II, many properties were damaged or destroyed, leading to the installation of prefabricated homes post-war.
