Earthwatch Tiny Forest: Littlemore

Littlemore Tiny Forest

Established on December 6, 2021, the Littlemore Tiny Forest is a collaborative initiative between Earthwatch Europe, Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust, and MINI Electric. This urban woodland, covering an area no larger than a tennis court, was planted with approximately 600 native saplings representing 18 different tree species. The planting was supported by Oxford University's Green Templeton College, which provided half of the trees through fundraising efforts. The site also features an outdoor classroom area, designed to be utilized by both schools and local residents, fostering environmental education and community engagement. In recognition of its innovative use of green space within a healthcare setting, the Littlemore Tiny Forest received the NHS Forest Award in 2023 for 'pioneering use of green space by healthcare professionals.' The Tiny Forest initiative is part of a broader effort by Earthwatch Europe to plant over 200 such forests across the UK in recent years. These densely planted woodlands are designed to grow rapidly, creating habitats for numerous species and contributing to carbon sequestration.
