Steuben House at Historic New Bridge Landing
The Steuben House, built in 1752 by merchant Jan Zabriskie, is a notable example of Bergen Dutch sandstone architecture. Situated along the Hackensack River in River Edge, New Jersey, it holds significant historical importance, particularly during the American Revolutionary War. In 1783, the State of New Jersey presented the house to Major General Baron von Steuben in recognition of his contributions to the Continental Army. Today, the Steuben House is part of the Historic New Bridge Landing site, which includes other historic structures like the Demarest House and the Campbell-Christie House. Managed by the Bergen County Historical Society, the site offers visitors a glimpse into 18th-century life and the pivotal events that unfolded there. The Steuben House is listed on both the New Jersey and National Registers of Historic Places. (en.wikipedia.org)
