Parc

Parc Perdicaris, also known as Rmilat Park, is a public park covering 70 hectares in the Rmilat neighborhood of Tangier, Morocco. Situated on the northern slopes of the Jebel Kebir hill, the park offers stunning views of the Strait of Gibraltar and the nearby Atlantic Ocean. It is bordered by the Cape Spartel reserve to the west and the Jebel Kebir Royal Palace to the east. (en.wikipedia.org)

The park was established in the 1870s by Ion Hanford Perdicaris, a Greek-American notable who purchased the property, then known as Aidonia or Idonia, and built an eclectic villa within its grounds, also referred to as "Château Perdicaris." In 1930, the Perdicaris family sold the estate to Thami El Glaoui, a prominent figure in Morocco, who used it as his residence when visiting Tangier. After El Glaoui's death and Morocco's independence in 1956, the park became state property. Following a period of neglect, renovation efforts began in 2015, and the villa was repurposed as a heritage center, inaugurated in early 2022. (en.wikipedia.org)

Parc Perdicaris is home to hundreds of different botanical species, making it a haven for nature enthusiasts. Visitors can enjoy walking along well-maintained paths, relaxing on benches, and taking in the fresh sea breeze. The park also features swings and picnic areas, making it an ideal spot for families and couples. Some areas offer panoramic views of the coastline, and the park is a popular destination for both locals and tourists. (tripadvisor.nl)

In addition to its natural beauty, the park holds historical significance due to its association with the Perdicaris family and the events surrounding the 1904 Perdicaris Incident. This incident, which involved the kidnapping of Ion Perdicaris, drew international attention and played a role in shaping U.S.-Moroccan relations. (en.wikipedia.org)

Today, Parc Perdicaris serves as a peaceful retreat within the bustling city of Tangier, offering a blend of natural beauty, historical significance, and recreational opportunities for visitors of all ages.
